Screenwriting Tip #523
LOL what if you don’t know what you are doing with EVERY scene! LOL
screenwritingtips:
If you don’t know what you’re doing with a scene, you can’t force it. You can cut it, replace it or wait until you figure it out. Forcing it produces crappy scenes.

Is it possible to have a narrative aspect to a sketch show and still keep the freedom sketches allow? I don’t want to go into the specifics right here of what I am thinking but if this concept intrigues you, email me.
I was going to make a post with a picture of Ray...

Hey Casey, how is that spec script going?
Thanks for asking nobody! It took me a very long time fleshing out the beats, which I didn’t think were funny, and every line of dialogue I write I hate! I’ve never attempted to write anything like this before, I have only written sketch. This is a completely different beast. This is the first time I have felt I can’t do something like this and do it well....

The Pat Falco and Casey Donahue graduation speech...
(For graduation, our school invited students to write speeches and a team of VP’s and faculity and whatever would decide which speech would represent the graduating class. No one remembers the speech that won and was given, but the one Pat and I wrote will live on forever. My parts are bold, Pat’s parts are regular style)

irsflyshit asked: hi, i love your page...and i love your videos. I just wanted to know how you exactly got into filmmaking and directing, and how can i learn or get into that same field. I have a goal to direct(music videos/documentaries) one day, as one of my future careers since i kinda of a passion for it. I also screenwrite..but thats another story..
chinue asked: This isn't so much a question as it is a statement. I was just going to say that I love your videos and creativity. They make me laugh and laughing is happiness which is most definitely healthy and necessary for the survival of man kind. That and recycling a little more often......but that's a different story.
There is ONE question I have though. How do...

hugel asked: I saw your post on Karen's post so I'd add mine on yours. I love my adapted vintage lenses that Mike Karnell turned me onto. For most fun situations you wouldn't even notice that I've got a 7D since the setup is so low profile. Plus the imperfections and vignetting of the old glass is just the look I'm going for. Group high-five.
karenabad asked: I love you Casey, and I definitely didn't get enough time with you. I also really respect you as an image maker. [This is not a question.]

– Why arrogance is a virtue for writers.
Arrogance is necessary because without it, I would belittle myself until I don’t produce anything at all. Know you are the greatest to keep yourself from thinking you are not good enough.
patfalco asked: THEY'RE NOT TURNING THE GYM INTO A GALLERY THEY'RE PUTTING IN LIKE A 30 MILLION DOLLAR DESIGN AND NEW MEDIA CENTER THAT IS ACTUALLY REALLY COOL.
At the Vimeo Festival, Bruce Sterling dissected Andrea Allen and why she is funny based on the videos we make at Vimeo. He compares our Vimeo videos to The Dick Van Dyke show.
Watch this video if you want to hear Bruce Sterling talk about how the videos I write aren’t funny but at the same time they are funny!

Still somewhat amazed by this. Kid is like Bo Burnham and Twista rolled into one suburban bundle of lyrics.
Watsky has a video I really like.
