A short story about driving.
It was nice to be driving around such familiar places with her.
“It’s been nice being back here. I miss seeing you.” I said to her.
She smiled and said “I miss seeing you too.”
“This is so great. You should come back West with me!” I said half jokingly.
She laughed.
“We’ll move in and get married and spend the rest of our lives together!” I said half serious.
She laughed again.
“I should’ve realized long ago that you were the only girl.” I said completely serious but sounding half jokey.
She laughed. Then she got quiet. Then I got quiet.
“Can you take me home please?” She asked.
“Okay.” I said to her.
I stopped in front of her place, she leaned over and kissed me. It was a kiss I’ve never experienced before. It was the type of kiss that felt like the last kiss a person gives another person before they never give them kisses again. It was soft, sweet, and too short.
She got out of the car and turned to me “Give me a call a little later, okay?” She said to me.
“Okay.” I said to her.
We waved. I drove off.
And that was that.
